Keepsake blanket

A keepsake blanket is a popular way of preserving and presenting your loved ones precious items, and can even capture a little insight into their personality. You could use the first outfit your baby came home from the hospital in, or their first Christmas costume. Whatever you choose to use, your blanket will be lovingly made and backed with a snuggly fleece in a complimentary colour. Perfect for cuddling up with.

Have you stored your baby's first outfit in a box out of sight, or do you have your loved one's favourite shirt still hanging in the wardrobe? It can be difficult to part with such precious things, not knowing what to do with them. Turning your treasured clothing into a keepsake is a fantastic alternative giving you a physical and lasting reminder of some of the most special people in your life.

Your keepsake will be lovingly made and your items will be handled with the highest respect. Every keepsake is unique and can be personalised in many different ways to ensure you bring out the special character in each one.

What to send...

New and pre-loved fabrics can be used for patchwork blankets. If you only have a few items of clothing and wish to use them as a special feature in a blanket, we can add new fabrics to make up the difference.

If you're sending your own clothing for a patchwork blanket then you need to choose:

Standard size: At least 25 to 30 pieces of baby clothing or at least 7 pieces of adult clothing. If you have premature or newborn sizes you will need to send a few extra just to ensure you have enough fabric.

Large size: At least 35 pieces of baby clothing or at least 10 pieces of adult clothing.

If you have premature or newborn sizes you will need to send a few extra just to ensure you have enough fabric. Please don't cut the fabric yourself unless you've spoken to us first, there's no need and you might cut it too small. We will pick out any tiny details that can be used and present them in the best way possible for you.

Stretchy fabric works best - if you have lightweight/see through, denim, leather or knitted fabric please get in touch first and we can have a quick check to see if your fabric can be used. It's always better to check first and we're happy to help!

We will try to cut at least 2 patchwork squares from each item that you send to us. Whilst the same pattern shapes are used for each type of keepsake, the finished item will be unique to you and the clothes that you send. Sizes, colours and little details will vary as this depends on the type and colour of clothing that you send for your own keepsake. Blanket sizes are approximate and will vary depending on the type of fabric you send and how stretchy the material is. 

Blankets include an embroidered square, if you want one, where you can have a name and date of birth. When ordering, please use the comments section at the checkout to provide any embroidery details such as names and dates, and you can also request a specific colour text there too!

Caring for your keepsake

Your keepsake can be machine washed at a low temperature but we would prefer you to hand wash them. Remember that your keepsake has been made from pre-loved clothing which can become fragile over time, and some will use a mixture of dark and light colours. To ensure your keepsake remains in tip-top condition please handle them with care, wash and dry them gently and never put them in the tumble dryer.

The important bit

As your keepsake is made from one of a kind, pre-loved fabric it cannot be CE tested (this is the safety test that standard soft toys must pass). Therefore, these keepsakes are not toys and are for ornamental use only. Warning: They should never be given to children of any age as they may contain small parts (such as button eyes for example) which can be a chocking hazard as these parts are hand-sewn.

Please note that after ordering, we will get in touch with you to confirm any details such as text for embroidery and colours. We can also discuss any special requests further with you. If you have quite a few specific requests we may discuss any additional payments that might be required to cover this but where possible, we will try to include as much as we can without extra cost.  At this point we will also discuss the colour you wish to use for the back of your blanket.
